So, this year we are adding to our already awesome Square Foot Garden. For the last two years we have had nine boxes that are producing copious amounts of food. We have had 1 box that is 2x3, 3 boxes that are 4x5, and 5 boxes that are 3x5. Each of those boxes has a trellis that runs across one end to allow us to grow things up. This year Brian decided that we needed to expand our garden, so he has been planning to expand our garden to include 32 more boxes that are 4x4 each! We will have 668 square feet of actual planted garden space! The actual size of the garden, including walkways is about 1130 square feet! He has been planning and researching and we are finally ready to implement his plan.
Because of the extremely mild winter we have had thus far (except that it is actually snowing as I write this) we have been able to till up the ground where our garden is going to be located; we have lots of places to choose from on our 2.5 acre plot. Brian finished tilling yesterday, so it was just in time for the snow to come.
Meanwhile, in the house we have built a grow shelf to be able to start out plants indoors, thus saving us money in the long run. (This year will be more expensive because we have had to purchase all of the lighting and shelving. That cost will not be needed again except as repair/maintenance is needed.)
The cost of plants is pretty high when you consider the cost of plant vs. seed, so we are going the seed route as the number of plants we would need would make a garden this size impossible.
We are planning lots of different things to put in our garden and hope to make it all work. I will be including photos in the next couple of posts so, keep your eyes open for more news and photos. This will be a journey for all of us.

Changes keep coming
Many things have happened since the last post. As you probably noticed, our family has changed. T is no longer part of our family. Because of his unwillingness to change and the continued danger other members of our family were facing with him a part of it, we chose to relinquish our parental rights to him and have him removed. Things have calmed down and are actually starting to feel "normal" for a change. It was a hard choice, but necessary.
I have earned my Associates degree in Graphic Arts and am starting the Bachelors program. I am loving it.
Big B is still working at the same place, doing the same thing. He likes working out in the garden.
Little B is now a junior at the local high school. She is progressing a little each year and will soon be old enough to vote.
D is driving and has earned his Eagle Scout award. He is working hard in school and life.
E is part of the young women's program and is now at the junior high.
Where does all the time go? They are all growing up so fast.

Ponderings
Well, things are moving right along in our home. It seems that time doesn't stop for anything. (Imagine that!) Let's see, an update on everyone:
B is having a BIG birthday next week, the big 16! She is so excited she can talk of nothing else. We are going to have a party and all the things that go along with a milestone birthday. She is doing really well in school and loves going to school. That makes it better for her.
T is home now and it is chaos. I don't know what we are going to do with him. Sometimes it is better and other times it is just like it was before. He has a full-time aide in school and that seems to be helping. We haven't had any major blow ups. This is a first. I really like the aide as she seems to have a great feel for what T needs. He a really great therapist that is working with the whole family. I hope that it will help bring all the family together more.
D is doing really well in school. We continue to use k12 through UTVA. It is a great program and we both love it. He just started Latin this last week and it is fun to hear him try and pronounce the words. I am learning it right along with him. At least I am trying. He is working on his Eagle Project right now, and is almost ready to turn in his papers. It is really great. He is doing activity bags for the kids in hospital. He is really passionate about it.
E is doing as well as can be expected. She is in a new school this year and I love her teachers. They are really great at helping her get around and learn the ropes at the new school. She is in the same class as B was in and will continue to be as long as she needs to be. It has really helped her so far.
Husband B is still working at the same job. He is doing well and is becoming very well respected with all he is able to do. I so proud of him. He is so smart and can figure out most of the problems. He is just getting over being really sick. He seems to get sick about twice a year, with the change of seasons. We just come to expect it. D and he love to play Magic the Gathering together. D usually can win, which makes him very happy. B takes it in stride and then comes back to wipe D off the board. It is fun to watch.
I am very busy. I have done one wedding cake and have another in the works. I am also making a cake for B's birthday (she wants a three layer). I made my baby sister M's wedding dress. I still have to alter her step-daughters dress. I am helping with the other parts of her wedding that is coming up on the first of Jan. It is alot of work, but I am really enjoying it. I have made lots of Christmas gifts this year. It has been great to keep me busy and also be productive. I am also tring to go to the gym at least 3 days a week. It helps me feel better, so I keep going. I take a book to listen to and I am getting lots of reading done that way. I actually enjoy it.
Well, that about sums it up. Lots going on and I sure I have forgotten lots, but that is most of it.

Ready to go!
Here D is ready to go out on the water. He is really excited, you just can't tell from the look on his face.
Kayaking
D and his friends built these kayaks last summer. They love to go out on the lake and swamp them. It usually takes at least two of them to drain the water out. Z and T are here helping D with his kayak, Tiger Shark.
